November 4, 2011 - 7:00pm
Gloucester City Hall

The Gloucester Lyceum and the Cape Ann Forum will co-sponsor world-renowned author Simon Winchester's talk and reading at Gloucester City Hall at 7 p.m. on Friday, Nov. 4, in conjunction with the paperback release of his New York Times best seller, "Atlantic: Great Sea Battles, Heroic Discoveries, Titanic Storms, and a Vast Ocean of a Million Stories." Published in hardback last year, "Atlantic" is of particular interest to Gloucester, as it focuses on the future of the North Atlantic fisheries, among many other powerful maritime narratives. The British-born journalist's best-selling books range from The Professor and the Madman (1998) and Krakatoa, The Day the World Exploded: August 27, 1883 (2003) to The Man Who Loved China (2009). He now makes his home in New York City and the Berkshires. He will be available after the talk to sign copies of the book, which will be sold at the event by the Bookstore of Gloucester.
