After Iraq: Time for a Powell Plan
The U.S. needs to mount a bold new aid initiative similar to the post-WW2-era Marshall Plan in the countries on the frontlines of the “war on terrorism,” says career diplomat Charles Dunbar.
Ambassador Dunbar teaches Political Science & International Relations at Simmons College, Boston. He has worked in Morocco, Algeria, Mauritania and Iran. He served as the chargé d’affaires in Afghanistan (1981-83) and the US Ambassador to Qatar (1983-85) and Yemen (1988-91). He was the UN Special Representative for a referendum in Northwest Africa (1998) and is writing a book about it now.

Dr. Stein, a staff physician at Simmons College and an Instructor in Medicine at Harvard Medical School, was the Green Party candidate for governor in the last election. She has been a public health and environmental advocate for many years and is co-author of In Harm’s Way: Toxic Threats to Child Development. She is currently the president of the Massachusetts Coalition for Healthy Communities, a new non-profit dedicated to tax and budget fairness in Massachusetts.
